Kwon, su young (Sera)
My family name is ‘Kwon’. While I searched on the
Internet, I found my famous ancestor.
His name is ‘Kwon yul’. So I
inquire minutely into him.

He was born in 1537 in rich family. He didn’t enter
political nor military career until he was 46. He was a Korean Army General of
the Joseon Dynasty. He is famous for the ‘Battle of Haengju’ where he defeated
a force of about 30,000 Japanese with 2,800 troops. Also He successfully led
the Korean forces against Japan. That battle named ‘Japanese invasions of Korea’.
‘During Japanese invasions of Korea’ ,when the
Japanese forces invaded Korea in 1592, he was appointed the leader of Gwangju,
Jeolla province. And given the military command of the region. However he
defeated by Japaneses. He managed to retreat back to Gwangju, and gathered
around 1,000 militaries.
After the
war, he retired from all of his posts. He died in 1599. People remind him as one
of the Korea's most successful and patriotic military commanders until now.
