Ganggansulae


<Traditional activity>

1. What is the name of the activity?

- Ganggansulae

2. What is the history of the activity?

- It was women’s play that usually feature singing and dancing in the moonlight. During the

“Imjin War”, it was used as tactics by Admiral Yi Sun-Sin to show the enemy that we have

many soldiers by cheating them but, actually many soldiers were women who play

Ganggansulae. Since then, It becomes traditional activity in Korea

3. Why do people do the activity?

- They have been hoping for a good crop and plenty that year.

4. What things do you need to do the activity?

- To do the activity, first, I need to gather the women and then we should learn the song and

dance.

5. Do people wear special clothes for the activity?

- They usually wear a Hanbok, the traditional dress of Korea.

What do the clothes look like?
